5 Must Have Winter Hair Trends for 2021

5 Must Have Winter Hair Trends for 2021

Winter is finally making its way into our wardrobe. But winter style doesn’t stop there. It’s time to shake up your winter hair-do too. I mean, any excuse to look fresh as hell right?

And while we know that blonde is the colour of summer and most of our Savvy babes will be making their way back to their blonde bombshell vibes when December approaches, it’s only May! So why not mix it up over Winter?

Now, because we know how much you love your summer colours, we’re not going to tell you all to dive into a crazy colour change (although we love to see it and will totally help you). Instead we’re going to show you our 5 favourite must-have winter hair trends that you can add to your look today – cause sometimes a little change can make a huge difference.

1 – Honey Blonde Babe

Oh yeah, it’s Honey Blonde season baby. This cult fave is a blend of dark and warm blonde with light brown. Essentially it takes all the wonderfully warm vibes of winter – cinnamon, honey, and caramel – and blends them through your hair. Delicious.

A winter classic for blondes, we love the honey blonde look because the warmth in the shades reflect light, which makes your hair appear shinier and healthier. As an added bonus, this colour is especially gorgeous on people with yellow, golden, or dark skin tones.

2 – Chocolate Brown Fade

Want a winter look that’s good enough to eat? Break yourself off a piece of the chocolate brown fade. Deliciously warm and rich, this look combines deep brown with a touch of golden highlights and a dash of mahogany.

It’s the seductive, mysterious winter colour that will take your hair to the next level, and we absolutely love it.

3 – Golden Brown Balayage

The golden brown balayage is timeless. It’s a great way to lighten dark hair or add much warmer tones to light hair. To achieve this classic look, we use a very dark brown base colour, then add a highlight with a medium brown tone – this accentuates both the darker hair shade and your skin tone.

Beautifully low-maintenance due to its blended look, this is perfect for our Savvy babes that can only come visit us once this winter.

4 – Silver and Gold

Silver & gold together… trust us here. Yes that may seem like an odd couple, but they go amazingly together when layered perfectly.

For our sexy silver foxes, pops of gold are a gorgeous addition to your 2021 winter hair. And for our lighter blonde babes, add a sliver of silver for that extra wow factor. Either way you go, this look will catch the light and turn you into a glistening goddess.

5 – Bronde

This beautiful brown and blonde mix is popping up all over Hollywood and we can see why. The two-tone look is super glamorous and very winter-appropriate.

We think bronde is perfect for almost everyone —for blondes who want to look less summery, brunettes who want to go lighter, and those who just want to dip their toes into dyeing their hair.

Bronde is very easy to maintain and works across an array of natural colours. Mixing highlights and mid-lights in this way creates a multi-dimensional look that’s sure to turn heads.

So there you have it, our top 5 favourite 2021 winter trends. No matter which one you choose, we promise to make sure you look banging when you leave our boutique. So warm up in our Savvy salon this winter, we can’t wait to see you.

Lots of love always,
Taleah and the Savvy team xx

Fall in Love with Kerastase Genesis

Fall in Love with Kerastase Genesis

Oh you best believe we put a clue about the new Kerastase Genesis in the headline. Yes, it’s kinda because we have fallen in love with it, but mostly because Kerastase Genesis is the new Queen on the block for hair-fall prevention.

We all age. It’s inevitable. And yet here Kerastase are, trying (and succeeding) in defying the ageing process. But it’s not just aging that can cause hair-fall in women.

Women may lose hair following childbirth or during menopause too. But it’s nothing to be embarrassed about, it’s totally normal. In fact, one study found that 40% of women experience hair loss by the time they’re 40. And in another a whopping 88% of women said they’ve experienced it in their life.

What’s more shocking though, is that only 10% of those women treat their hair loss. Until now.

That’s where Kerastase Genesis comes in. In a hair-care first, Kerastase has created a non-clinical solution to female hair-fall. Science says that hair loss is due to collagen accumulation and rigidfrication around the fibre. Big words we know. But it means that from both genetic, or external factors, hair falls from the roots (due to stress, hormones, or diet) or breaks at the end (from brushing, heat styling, or pollution) causing a lack of individual strands on the scalp.

So how does Kerastase Genesis fix this? Well it’s simple…ish.

Kerastase Genesis has created a collection of 7 products supercharged to help you fix your hair-fall. It seems like a lot, but really it’s mix-and-match. So let’s break it down to find out exactly which products you need to help your hair-fall.

Serum Anti-Chute Fortifiant or Ampoules Cure Anti-Chute Fortifiantes

Start your day strong with a bit of Anti-Chute Fortifiant. These serums improve hair resistance from the root to help prevent hair-fall. Day after day these products help to re-anchor hair follicles into the scalp while building a beautiful foundation for future hair growth.

What’s the difference? While the Serum is a softer approach to treating hair-fall, the jelly-like formula of the Ampoules shots re-anchor the hair follicle to the scalp using a more intense method. The Ampoules formula also decreases itchiness and soothes by reinforcing the scalps natural protective barrier.

Kerastase recommends using either the Serum or Ampoules it once daily in the morning (or night) on the root of your hair for 6 weeks on dry or towel-dried hair, and massaging it into the scalp.

Shampoo – Bain Nutri-Fortifiant or Hydra-Fortifiant

First things first, shampoo. Kerastase has you covered whether you have dry (nutri) or fine (hydra) hair. Both products are enriched with a potent combination of Edelweiss Native Cells and Ginger Root in a formula that strengthens hair fiber.

Conditioner – Fondant Renforçateur

Of course, we follow this up with a conditioner. This creamy formula boasts 97.7% reduced hair-fall due to breakage with a super lightweight finish. It does this by helping restore and reinforce the fiber and reinforce.

Masque Reconstituant

Use this instead of the conditioner for even stronger protection against hair-fall due to breakage. Unlike the conditioner which you wash out immediately, pop the masque on towel-dried hair and wait for 5min before washing again for it to work its ultimate magic.

Défense Thermique

Last but certainly not least is the Défense Thermique – your go to protection against heat. This product is all about hydration and protection without weighing your hair down. For every babe that uses heat on their hair, we beg of you, please use a heat protection formula like this one.

Ok so we know it may seem very product heavy, so here’s a quick guide to who needs what –

Fine or normal hair?

  • Sérum or Ampoules Cure Anti-Chute Fortifiant
  • Bain Hydra-Fortifiant
  • Fondant Renforçateur
  • Défense Thermique

Oily Roots, Dry Lengths?

  • Sérum or Ampoules Cure Anti-Chute Fortifiant
  • Bain Hydra-Fortifiant
  • Masque Reconstituant (for thick hair) or Fondant Renforçateur (for fine hair)
  • Défense Thermique

Thick, Dry Hair?

  • Sérum or Ampoules Cure Anti-Chute Fortifiant
  • Bain Nutri-Fortifiant
  • Masque Reconstituant
  • Défense Thermique

Wow, I think we covered everything. If you suffer from hair-fall from the root or breakage, we can’t recommend the Kerastase Genesis enough. If you want some more information, of course you can always chat to Taleah and the Savvy team. We are always here to help. Otherwise pop by any time to pick up your Kerastase Genesis products. We can’t wait to see you.

Now that the world is slowly but surely returning to some kind of normality, it means our beautiful brides can get back to not just dreaming about their destination weddings, but making them a reality too.

At Savvy, we love love. And of course, we love hair too. So here are our top destination inspired wedding hair-dos for any wedding, anywhere.

Bali, Byron, and the Beach

Heading somewhere hot and humid for your wedding? Well beachy brides, we think you’ll love your hair long and loose. It’s all about those natural waves and loose curls for your beachside nuptials.

To make it all extra special, weave some baby’s breath or other flowers into your do – you’re sure to look like a vision and hopefully the weather is as beautiful as you are for your big day.

New Zealand, New South Wales, and Nature

If you’re reconnecting with nature for your wedding like the mountains, wineries, or the rainforest we recommend keeping it soft and up. This the perfect place to have that ‘it only took me a second but really this hairstyle took me hours to look beautifully careless’ look.

And of course, we can’t leave off the leaves. Every wedding against a beautifully green backdrop deserves a crown to match.

Czech Republic, Canada, the Church, and the City

And finally, our more traditional blushing brides.

Destination doesn’t just mean landscapes. I mean have seen some of those European churches? Wow. Also, you go girls, make the most of the city streets being a little quieter and get those cute alleyway photos.

For our city-scape brides, whether up or down, we think you’ll love your hair neat, in-place, smooth. Those veils, lace, pearls, and crystals need a beautiful foundation to be placed onto so we think the more styled look is for you.

Keratin or Chemical Smoothing? Let’s straighten out the details

For a lot of people, hair straightening or smoothing can seem like a big commitment – but does it have to be?

Of course a lot of us reach for our daily straightening and styling tools, but if doing that day-in-and-day-out is giving you bigger biceps than you’d like or taking up that extra 20 minutes of snooze time then we’re here to chat different, more permanent, solutions.

The big two or Chemical and Keratin Straightening or Smoothing processes. But what are they really? What’s the difference? Well, thank goodness we’re here to help you straighten things out.

What actually is “Chemical Straightening”?

First things first, Chemical Straightening has a few different names and types – Thermal Reconditioning, Reverse Perms, Japanese Straightening and Relaxers just to name a few.

And when we say permanent, for the majority of people we mean permanent. This is because they work by using super strong chemicals to break down bonds inside your individual strands to take out any curls or waves and get that straighty-180 look. Essentially it damages your hair to make it straight.

On the upside, because this process uses such strong chemicals it can straighten the hair of even the wildest curls. On the downside, when new hair grows, that hair will still have your natural waves, curls, and kinks to it so you will need to refresh it to maintain the pin straight look from root to end.

Also, as it uses such strong chemicals, this kind of straightening is often not recommended for coloured or bleached hair.

All-in-all definitely a viable solution for those boys and babes looking for permanent hair straightening but please for the love of hair, leave this one to the professionals.

What actually is “Keratin”?

Keratin hair straightening is actually also a chemical process, but in this version keratin proteins are added back into your hair. These keratin proteins are natural in your hair, and are the thing you need for shiny, healthy hair. So what happens is when your hair gets overly porous, it becomes frizzy, tangled, and well… unhealthy looking.

So we add keratin back into the hand strands to restore it to its former glory. But don’t get it confused, these natural proteins will run out again and you’ll need another boost. Because everyone’s hair is unique, results may vary but we expect to see you again for a keratin pick-me-up between two and six months.

Unlike chemical straighteners, you can happily use keratin products on coloured hair. Because this process makes your hair healthier, it can do big things for colour damaged hair.

All in all, despite this being a non-permanent straightening solution, you know in the long run you’ll be left with healthier, stronger locks.

Can you do this at home? Yeah. Should you though? Probably not.
Again, hairdressers are professionals for a reason. And if that’s not reason enough, getting it fixed will cost more than just getting it done properly in the first place.

If you think either of these solutions are options for you, or you’d just like to chat or learn more, then book your appointment with Taleah and the team to make your straight hair dream a reality.

Love, Taleah and your Savvy squad xx

Mastering the salon fresh feeling with L’Oreal Professional & Kerastase

There’s nothing quite like leaving the salon with an extra bounce in your step and locks. So how do hairdressers achieve this magic? Let’s break it down.

First, L’Oreal Smartbond Additive & Pre-Shampoo

Yeah we know we’ve chatted about this before, but it’s only because we’re obsessed with it and want you to be too.

Everytime you treat your hair with chemicals, and for a lot of us it’s been years, our hair tends to lose its natural strength and shine.

In the salon, we use the Additive to your hair to increase the fibres and limit further damage and breakage – this is especially important when we have to bleach or colour your locks. It’s your first line of defence for strong, healthy hair. And as an added bonus, we think it smells pretty great too.

Then, also in the salon, we add the Pre-Shampoo from the roots all the way to the ends. Because it has to sit for 10 minutes to work its magic, this is the part where we usually leave you to relax.

Combined, these two steps of the L’Oreal Smartbond routine provide the perfect foundation for the salon-fresh feeling.

Then, Kerastase Fusio-Dose

You know that dreamy head massage moment at the wash basin? Well this is when we make your hair feel as wonderful as you do.

Fusio-Dose is truly as fancy as it sounds. For the treatment, we blend together a bespoke cocktail of Kerastase products from the Fusio-Dose range to bring out the best in your hair. It’s all about regeneration and shine for longer-lasting healthy hair.

Even at home, we’ve heard our beautiful clients brag about how after the Fusio-Dose treatment they can feel the difference in health and vibrance in their hair… even when wet.

When used in a salon ritual alongside L’Oreal Smartbond, Kerastase Fusio-Dose really shines. Because as L’Oreal Smartbond strengths and protects, Kerastase Fusio-Dose can then go above-and-beyond to provide regeneration and vibrance for healthier, shinier hair.

At home, L’Oreal Smartbond Conditioner

Surprise! The L’Oreal touch continues outside the salon with their third product in the Smartbond routine. While the Additive and Pre-Shampoo are in-salon treatments, the Conditioner is reserved for your home care ritual.

L’Oreal says to use this every three washes, and we totally agree. As it works to continuously strengthen your strand fibre, it’s the perfect pick-me-up for gorgeous, silky smooth hair in between appointments.

We know how much you love your hair when you leave our salon, that’s why we want you to prolong that feeling as long as possible. During November, you can pick up the whole L’Oreal Smartbond three step routine for $45 and a Kerastase Fusio-Dose for just $55.

Together, both products work to transform your hair from the inside out leaving it strong, protected, softer, and shinier after every wash.

GHD Platinum+. Your secret weapon to a good hair day, every day.

Finally something good to come out of 2020, the newest stone in the GHD crown – the Platinum+. It’s the smartest, sleekest, and smoothest straightener to come out of GHD yet.

SMART Technology

The Platinum+ predicts what your hair needs. GHD has fitted both of the floating plates with sensors that are built to monitor heat 250 times every second. These sensors determine the thickness of your hair, the size of the portions you’re working with and how quickly you’re styling so they can adjust the heat and power accordingly.

This Smart technology means less heat stress on your hair – which is particularly important for our Blondies, who need a little extra TLC when it comes to heat and styling.

One of the big points about this new model compared to the past GHD range, is their promise to leave hair “70% stronger, 20% shinier, and with twice the colour protection”. And we can definitely see the difference. Everytime we use the Platinum +, we find our hair is left looking shinier and less brittle – both very important when working with heat.

New Design

Now if you haven’t upgraded your straightener in a while, you’d be excused if a few things about the Platinum+ shocked you. Firstly, the hinge has been updated to be a wishbone style mechanic, giving a much smoother open/close experience. This means you can twist and curl your hair all you like without the fear of getting your hair caught – which we’ve all done at least once or twice.

The new hinge feature is fashion as well as function, giving the straightener a sleeker more luxurious look too.

You’ll also find that instead of a switch, the single On/Off button is flush with the body of the straightener. When pressed, a soft little sound plays, and then plays again when the temperature reaches 185˚C (in just 20 seconds), which we think is pretty cute.

While what’s inside the box is very impressive, GHD have outdone themselves on the packaging. The Platinum+ is available in a range of colours including Deep Scarlet and Powder Pink and comes in a gorgeous little care box.

You can really see that GHD has put love into this model, and knows it’s all the little things that make for a more enjoyable styling experience.

And yes, at $345 they’re definitely an investment. But when it comes to GHD you know they’re built to last.

Luckily for you though, the team at Savvy are giving away a brand new Platinum+ for one of our lovely clients. Over October and November, all bookings will come with a chance to win themselves their very own GHD Platinum+.

Get in touch with Taleah and the team today to book your next appointment for a chance to win.

We’ll see you soon, Savvy xx

Our review on Evo Fab Pro – the hottest colour conditioner in town

It’s the product taking over London, New, York, Sydney and well… the globe. But what’s the big fuss about the new Evo Fab Pro line? Let us break down this trend for you.

There’s two products to Evo Fab Pro – direct dye in salon & colour maintenance at home.

In a salon, the direct dye product is used in the very experienced and careful hands of your stylist… and you should leave it that way.

Evo Fab Pro direct dyes are mixed by your stylist to create an unlimited pallet of semi-permanent colours. Colour refresh, fills, tones, pastels, bright, trendy, natural… whatever your heart desires is up for grabs.

At home, the Evo Fab Pro colour maintenance line is a conditioner mask to keep you looking gorgeous between appointments. Because this blog is made for you, we’ll focus on the colour maintenance line and leave the direct dyes to the professionals.

They say…

Fab Pro Colour Maintenance matches ANY colour.

During your salon visit, your hairdresser can create a custom take-home colour conditioner to perfectly match your hair. Whether you’re pretty in pink, a show-stopping red, or a chocolate brown that would melt hearts, Fab Pro is the ultimate colour range.

It’s the perfect pick-me-up in between salon visits.

Armed with your tailored colour match in between appointments, Fab Pro colour maintenance conditioner should be used at least once a week to maintain your colour and keep your hair salon fresh.

It’s got no nasties.

No ammonia, peroxide, sulfates, parabens, or gluten. And it’s also vegan and created cruelty free (that means it’s only be tested on other style queens like you, and not baby bunnies).

3 minutes once a week is all you need.

The Evo team recommends 3 minutes at least once a week is the right application for Fab Pro. Seems like a simple enough add into your hair care routine.

It leaves no chunky colour build-up.

If matched correctly, the colour won’t get any more intense or darker than after your first few applications. Colour maintenance is designed to replace the colour that washes out in between direct dye applications. Only so much colour can be added to the strands before the fibre is saturaturated. Of course, this depends on your hair type.

We say…they’re right. It’s bloody brilliant.

While we think the less washes in between salon visits the better (within reason though, we all know life happens, it gets oily and dirty), we don’t see the need to use Fab Pro every wash but rather every two to three washes.

In saying that everybody’s hair is unique and will take to colour differently, so while we say not every wash, you do you boo.

When you do use Fab Pro at home, keep an eye on how well it works. The longer you leave it on, the more colour you’ll achieve. So for those of us with very porous hair, a quick fix might be all you need.

Next time you come see us at Savvy Hair Artistry chat to Taleah and our team about collecting your customised Fab Pro colour maintenance conditioner, so you can keep looking gorgeous from the moment you step out to when you come visit again.

See you soon, xx

Five Tips and tricks to get more Volume for Short Hair and Fine Hair

Do you ever start off the morning with hair volume for days, only for it to flatten out as the hours pass by? If you have short hair and just can’t seem to maintain lift and volume, we’ve got five expert tips for you to try that will infuse life back into your hair.

1. Hair extensions with volumizer for added thickness

Hair extensions are the fastest, easiest way to add thickness and length to your hair in as little as five minutes. For short hair, be sure to choose a set that is thicker than your actual hair type to ensure that the extensions blend in seamlessly with the shorter ends of your hair. Savvy Hair can point you in the right direction to order the perfect extension you as well as providing you with a hair tutorial on how to put them in.

Add in a volumizer

For that mega volume, we usually like to take it a step further by adding in a Volumizer Weft, this is a single, 4-clip weft, which adds 45g of added volume to your hair. When wearing the Volumizer Weft. Simply stack this this weft onto the weft clipped in at the widest part of your head. Stacking the wefts in this way will reduce bulk at the back of your head, only leaving you with thick, volumized, cascading hair.

2. Dry Shampoo

There’s a reason why your hair looks fluffy and voluminous when you first wash it, flattening gradually until you wash it again. Our scalp produces natural oils called sebum, which protect your hair and scalp, keeping them moisturized. These natural oils also protect the scalp from bacterial infection, forming a barrier from disease carrying bacteria. While sebum provides loads of benefits for the hair and scalp, a downside to these natural oils is that they weigh down the hair at the roots, resulting in flat, lifeless hair until your next wash. A solution? Dry shampoo.

Dry shampoo is a quick, effective way to banish greasy roots and oily hair, reviving style and volume instantly. Simply separate your hair section by section, sprinkle in a bit of dry shampoo, rub the product into your roots, and watch your hair come back to life. For an extra bit of zhoosh, flip your hair upside down, and apply dry shampoo to the roots underneath your head as well. We have a selection of the perfect dry shampoo for your hair needs.

3. Texturizing spray

Texturizing spray is our little secret for that tousled, model-off-duty look. Whether you’re wearing your hair short or with extensions clipped in, texturizing spray adds an airiness to the hair for that perfectly undone finish. Use your fingers to feather through your hair and spray the texturizing spray from the midshaft to ends, avoiding the roots. Scrunch the hair, and you’re done!

Our favorite texturizing spray is the Savage Panache from loreal Professional, gives you the perfect volume all day that leaves your hair looking like a 10 all day long. If you’re looking to splurge a bit more, opt for the Pureology wind tossed Texturizing Spray, which preserves moistures in the hair while adding shine and definition.

4. Change your part

Your hair strands eventually get used to the same part, falling flat over time. In order to maintain volume at the roots, it’s a good idea to switch up your hair part every now and again. If you usually part your hair in the middle, try flipping your hair to the side. If you usually part your hair on the side, part your hair on the opposite side, and watch your hair instantly lift itself.

5. Tease your hair

Teasing your hair forces the roots to stand upright, adding instant lift and volume. Using either a teasing brush or large paddle brush, (which we sell at Savvy Hair Artistry )separate your hair section by section, backcombing the hair at the roots. Finish off with some light hold hair spray, then lightly brush over the top of your hair to smoothen down any tangles.

Do you have short or long hair? Do you have any other tips to getting more volume? Let us know in the comments below.

Staying Home Through COVID-19 – Tips and Tricks

Staying home is the new Saturday night, brunch with the girls, 9 to 5—it is our new norm, for now.

With stay at home orders across the country, we are connecting online now more than ever. FaceTime, Zoom, House Party, and Google Hangouts video conferencing is how we are getting work done, catching up with friends and family, starting new hobbies, and for some, even dating.

While sweats and top buns may be your go-to lately, it doesn’t mean you can’t look cute on FaceTime calls. Whether chatting with your boss, having a glass of wine with friends, or going on a virtual date there are plenty of ways to up your video call looks.

Savvy has put together our top tips on how to look good on FaceTime.

The set-up

Find a comfortable place in your home to set-up your work and conferencing space. While staying in bed may seem appealing all day, experts say it’s best to separate the space where you sleep and where you work.

Ergonomically speaking sitting on a bed with no back support may not be comfortable, so find a space and chair that can help you get comfortable and conduct your calls with ease.

Raise your camera or computer to eye level—this can easily be done with a desk-riser, or a shoe box or books. Just like taking a photo, this is all about angles, you don’t want your co-workers or your friends to look at you from under your chin or nose as this casts an unflattering shadow and no one wants that.

With your camera at eye-level, you can look directly into it just like you would when participating in an in-person meeting. You can always tell who on the call is looking at themselves and not the rest of the group. How to impress your boss and peers? Easy tip: Eyes up, talk directly to the camera making “eye contact” it looks professional and also gives off the most natural view of you.

Don’t forget, posture up. While your friends may take you as you are, you don’t want to be slouched or lying back on a work call. Save sloth mode for after-work calls. Having your camera on eye level will help you to straighten up and you may find less pressure on your lower back after a day’s work of sitting.

The background is the Key

The key to how to look good on FaceTime is to ensure the attention is rightly on you and the best way is to make sure your background is not distracting. A plain wall or one with few clean photos or items in the background is best. If you’re in your bedroom, makes sure it’s clean and tidy!

Lighting is your best friend

Just like the angles of your camera, do not situate yourself directly under an overhead light—again, this casts unflattering lighting and can wash your background out typically creating a plain Jane or that hooded villain look.

Natural light is great during the day when possible and be sure the light is on your face. Putting your back to the window or light again casts a shadow and your colleagues or friends won’t be able to see you. It may also be time to invest in a ring light. They’re not just for influencers or TikTok-obsessed creators. There are many sizes of ring lights now available including ones that can fit directly onto your mobile phone or your laptop camera. This brightens your appearance and darkens the background, ensuring the focus is on you. A desk lamp can also help if properly situated around your camera, but the best way to find your ideal lighting is to test your video ahead of time, experiment with placement and lighting type to find what works for your space and your angles.

Plus, if you do get a ring light, you’ll also up your selfie game ten-fold. If it works for the Kardashians, it can work for you!

Easy makeup and hair for your next FaceTime or Zoom call

These are the two things you have probably ignored over self-isolation, along with other things such as bras, and your makeup bags. We’re not saying you need a full face and a blowout every day, or even that you should follow your daily beauty and hair routines (unless you want to and it brings you joy, please do you). If you want to master how to look good on video, there are simple makeup tips to help freshen up your natural beauty and will absolutely help you slay your call.

A little concealer goes a long way. A little concealer under the eyes for a brighter look. To make your eyes pop a bit more, apply mascara. For those who prefer defined eyes, apply some eyeliner and call it a day. As you’ve already learned our trick of speaking right into the camera, putting emphasis on bright, rested eyes will make you look great (and put together).

You can also use concealer or powdered foundation to even out any discolouration or redness in the skin. With the right lighting, a smooth complexion will even make your video callers think you have a filter on (and if you do, good on you!)

If you can’t be bothered with foundation but still want a little colour, pop on a light highlighter on your cheeks or go for a light sweep of bronzer. Just because you haven’t left the house in weeks doesn’t mean you have to forego that sun-kissed look completely. What’s makeup for anyway?

Now it’s time to talk hair. Let’s be honest, when’s the last time you brushed it? It wouldn’t hurt to pull it out of that scrunchie once in a while and running a brush through your locks to ensure now tangling. Having your hair up all the time also increases breakage and split ends and we know you’re not trying to come out of quarantine with less hair.

A sleek ponytail always looks professional but wear your hair down once in a while too. If you don’t want to go through the work of blow-drying, all good. Use a butterfly clip or hair tie for a half-up look, no one is going to see the back of your head so do as you please to keep the hair up.

If you typically wear clip in hair extensions, put them on for your FaceTime calls for instant volume and length. If your hair feels or looks a little dull, clip in hair extensions will easily give you some new oomph. Perfect for work Zoom calls or FaceTime date nights.

Another easy styling trick with or without clip in hair extensions is Accessories! Put on a headband or tie a scarf on to give your hair to give that fleek look

Plan a night out or girls’ night online and get all your friends glammed up, another excuse or rather, opportunity to do your hair and makeup and have fun with it.

While working and playing from home is our new norm, for now, technology is helping us stay connected. Reach out to those you haven’t spoken to in a while, check in with people in your street or family members, and don’t forget to be kind to yourself too. Dress up everyone now again or throw on a bold red lip just for fun—this can make a world of a difference to how you feel, which in turn will show through your camera. Love Savvy Team XX

Why doesn’t my blow-dry last when I do it at home?

When clients come into the salon, their hair always looks fantastic when leaving because of the blow-dry and finish they get after a service. So why doesn’t my blow-dry at home last as well as it does when leaving the salon? And how can I make my blow-dry last when doing it myself at home? This can be the answer you are looking for:

There is a lot of factors to a long-lasting blow-dry which can be: humidity, rain and using the correct products.

In-salon, we only use professional products which is a big tick to a lasting blow-dry.

We always use quality shampoos, conditioners and treatments at the basin that is suited to your hair type, as Stylists we also use our favourite products to prep and set the hair when blow-drying and styling. Which can be purchased in the salon to take home to continue making your hair feel amazing when blow-drying at home.

Humidity and rain is a killer for a blow-dry, every girl that has thick and unruly hair will know this. Therefore it can be impossible to try and get the same results at home.

Some tricks you can use at home for the day after a blow-dry is dry shampoo. My personal favourite is the Loreal professional techni-art morning after dust.

It not only helps to add that bit of volume back into your hair, but it also smells amazing. Another product I like to use is a bit of serum on the mid-lengths and ends. Again, my favourite product is the Loreal professional mythic oil.

Before you blow-dry your hair, you need to remember a few things! Prepare your hair. This can be achieved by using a smoothing cream to a root lift spray or mouse to a curly cream or even just a heat spray. We always encourage to put in a product before you even start to blow-dry.

When you start to blow-dry don’t put a brush straight under your hair when it is dripping wet, you will get sore arms, and it will take too long to dry, after you prep your hair blast dry it 80-90% with the dryer alone. After that you can start to use a round brush, this will get you the lift and shine in the blow-dry.

Once you have finished blow-drying, decide if you want to run the straightener over the top (making sure you don’t lose the root lift) or if you want to add some curls. Always make sure you are using a heat protectant. My favourite for curls? The GHD curl hold spray of course.

When you’re done, add some hair spray to set it once fully finished.

So there you have it! Always remember that good quality products go a long way in keeping your hair in top condition as well as maximising your salon treatment.
